The Chapter's primary mission is serving our community through raising funds to support merit-based scholarships. Central Maryland has over 1,450 members and serves Baltimore City and five counties: Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard. The Chapter has hosted monthly luncheon meetings (for the past fifteen years September-April). We meet at the BWI Marriott, featuring nationally known speakers. The Central Maryland Chapter, for the past eighteen years, has presented the annual Mid-Atlantic Intelligence Symposium each fall, and hosts the annual AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter Awards Night banquet, where we award scholarships to deserving students. The Chapter also offers periodic technical seminars, biannual golf tournaments, and sponsors a very active group of Young AFCEANs who lead our Technology Over Bagels seminar series. The Chapter is especially proud of the college scholarship awards totaling $110,000 that it presents each year to deserving high school students who are competitively selected . We also support $4,500 in annual Science Teaching Tools Awards, which recognize outstanding high school science teachers with a cash grant for needed school supplies and equipment, and approximately $500 in annual Science Fair awards. In 2004 our Chapter donated $6,000 to the AFCEA International Scientific Education Fund. The Chapter invites you to join this good work today, either as a Chapter (Call Vicki Neumann at 443-259-3153) or corporate sponsor! |
