WIIG Mentorship Circlies Print E-mail

Mentor circles are comprised of 8-10 mentees and 2 mentors. Currently, the WIIG CMD Chapter has 6 active mentor circles with over 60 participants. The mentors were nominated by the women in our community and provided formal mentor training. The circles meet once each quarter and have developed detailed plans to cover topics such as work-life balance, women leaders, targeted skills development, and achieving successful business in the Intelligence Community. The circles establish a platform via Leadership Mentoring sessions for CMD women to come together to discuss approaches, best practices, successful leadership experiences, and to establish a network of mentoring female chapter members.

Each circle will remain together for the year long program to discuss the following topics:

  • Networking
  • Mentorship
  • Lessons learned & best practices
  • Giving back to the community
  • Professional Growth & Development

Mentorship Circles - Structure

  • The Mentorship Circle Meetings will take place Quarterly within conference rooms donated by member companies
  • Meetings will be schedule for a 2-hour period that is convenient to the circle members (e.g., morning, lunch time, late afternoon, evening)
  • All volunteers who wish to be Mentors will be placed through a Mentorship training program and will be approved by the Exec Board.
  • Each Mentor Circle will host no more than 12 mentees to every 1-2 Mentors within the group.
  • The members of each Circle will remain the same throughout the course of the year.
  • Each mentor circle member will be provided with a copy of the WIIG Mentor Circle Program Notebook
  • Discussion topics for each Quarter will be the same for all Mentor Circles.
  • The Mentor Circles will have ground rules and structure to ensure consistency and stability.
  • All participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the Mentor Circle Program.

Stephanie Argilan

Federal Sales Manager, Brocade

Stephanie has 22 years technical and sales experience in the Intelligence Community, with the majority of her experience at NSA.

For the past 8 years, Stephanie has been a Senior Account Manager for Foundry Networks/Brocade, with the Intel agencies as her customer base. As an account manager for a very small company, Stephanie’s job functions included sales, marketing and business capture efforts. Prior to Foundry, Stephanie spent four years at Data Procurement Corporation, a Value Added Reseller, bringing relevant products in to NSA.

Stephanie began her career as a programmer, working for Booz Allen Hamilton for 10 years. In this capacity, she worked in a team to create collection systems and installed those systems around the world.

Stephanie is a member of AFCEA and the Notre Dame Club of MD. She attended the University of Notre Dame and received her MS from Johns Hopkins University. She lives in Crownsville with her husband and two daughters (10 and 4). She enjoys Ultimate Frisbee and skiing.

Nancy Baldwin

Vice President, Information Technology Services, Trusant Technologies, LLC

Nancy has worked in the information technology field for over 20 years, serving as a Director on government contracts for the last 5 years. The majority of her career was spent in the commercial consulting field assisting Fortune 500 companies to implement systems and improve processes. In addition to managing a wide variety of technology projects, Nancy provided management consulting in the form of strategic planning, technology assessments, cost benefit analyses, IT methodology development, and critical program management support to customers.

As a VP in a small company focused on the Intelligence Community, Trusant Technologies, Nancy is involved in all aspects of running the business encompassing finances, recruiting, human resources, business development, project execution, and program management. Responsible for the IT Services business unit, she provides the direction and leadership for continued success and future growth. Beyond the day-to-day activities of projects and proposals, Nancy focuses on staying current in the Intelligence Community and developing industry relationships.

Nancy attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and earned a graduate degree from the University of Baltimore while working full time. She lives in rural Glyndon, Maryland with her husband and three cats. Nancy enjoys a large extended family and has a plethora of hobbies (too many for the allotted “free time”) to include: travelling, diving, gardening, reading, knitting

Diane Batchik

Co-founder and CEO, White Cliffs Consulting LLC

Diane has 25 years in the Intelligence Community, within both government and industry. Her experience encompasses: Signals Intelligence collection, analysis and reporting; Information Assurance; counterintelligence; support to military and diplomatic operations; advanced technology development; program management, and strategy and business development. She has particularly extensive international experience, to include participation in bi- and multilateral US Government negotiations, international contracting, teaming, and export control (ITAR) compliance, and management of physically distributed international organizations.

Diane is co-founder and CEO of White Cliffs Consulting, LLC, which focuses on the provision of high-end cyber and computer network operations services to the national security community. In this role, she provides: strategic direction and management for the company; branding; client and industry relationship management; business development from opportunity identification through capture and execution; and program management. Prior to this position, Diane was Senior Director for Federal Programs at a technology development company focused on end-point digital intelligence technologies; and Director of an international business unit of Northrop Grumman, focused on classified intelligence program development with Allied partners.

Diane is a member of AFCEA, INSA, and the Baltimore Council on Foreign Relations. She attended the University of Virginia, with graduate work at George Washington University. She lives in Columbia, MD with her husband, two sons (ages 12 and 14), and golden retriever, Champ. She enjoys travel, gardening, reading and exercise in her spare (?) time.

Kathleen Berganski

Senior Program Manager, SAIC

Kathleen has over twenty years of IT service management experience in government and industry. Her experience is primarily focused around Program Management and technical leadership roles.

Kathleen has been with L-3 for 5 years and currently leads the Intelligence Community Sector in Annapolis Junction, MD. In this capacity, Kathleen has operational responsibility for contracts supporting principal lines of business within the sector, including the full range of secure information technology (systems engineering, software and systems development, management consulting, and information assurance) and intelligence analysis. She provides leadership and guidance to Sector staff. She is also responsible for marketing, business development, and proposal activities.

Kathleen earned a BA degree in Economics from Fairfield University. Certifications include PMP, Six Sigma, and ITIL Foundation. She is a member of AFCEA. Kathleen lives in Bowie, Maryland and enjoys tennis, scuba diving, and playing the piano. She lives with her husband, Michael, and two teenage daughters, Katie and Kellie.

Tori Boats

Chief Operating officer, ProSync

Serving as Chief Operating Officer, Tori Boats translates ProSync's strategic vision and plan into a specific set of policies, resources and prioritized strategic, tactical and operational work plans for all groups. Her focus is to innovate and explore internal operations methodologies and work in collaboration with executive management to develop and implement new technologies and procedures to meet strategic organizational objectives. Tori plays a key role in ProSync's leadership, strategy and direction ensuring high quality solutions to ProSync customers.

Tori’s distinguished career spans a diversity of roles in the IT industry, including systems engineer, enterprise systems architecture, ELINT and SIGINT mission support, linguistics, and project management.

She is also a veteran of the United States Air Force with over 13 years of experience working with the National Security Agency.

Tori earned an MBA from Johns Hopkins University in 2003, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University in 2001 and a Bachelors of Science in CMIS a the University of Maryland. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and holds several technical certifications.

Diana Gresham

Sr. Director, Serco

Diana has over 30 years of experience in performing in the Intelligence community. Her experience began in NSA in Human Resources as well as other positions in the Research and Engineering and Signals Intelligence Directorate. While in NSA, Diana followed the managerial track and was assigned as a Chief of Staff and Manager of numerous Offices. As a change agent, Diana often found herself on numerous working groups and committees.

Diana began her career in private industry working as the HR Manager for Conquest, Incorporated (Boeing) and from there moving on to Serco via mergers with Bridge Technology Corporation and SI-International. In private industry, Diana has acted in several capacities ranging from Human Resources Management, Director of Operations, and Program and Project Management positions. She has been a key player in several acquisitions and mergers as well as working in the Bids and Proposal arena.

Diana earned her BS degree from the University of MD while working and raising a family. She has two grown children, one is an ER Nurse and the other is a Computer Scientist working in the Intelligence community. She most recently became a grandparent and loves this role! She spends a great deal of time helping with her elderly parents, but does find some time to enjoy her beach home.

Jo Anne Labrum

Senior Associate, Booz Allen Hamilton

Jo Anne has over 15 years of professional experience and she has worked as an analyst, Task Lead and Program Manager supporting various government agencies including Joint Task Force – Computer Network Operations, Defense Information Systems Agency, Internal Revenue Service, Joint Warfare Analysis Center (JWAC), and the National Security Agency. Currently she is the Program Manager for a large analytic services contract supporting the NSA.

Jo Anne earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Loyola College and a Master’s degree in Operations Research from The George Washington University, and she is a certified Program Management Professional (PMP). Prior to joining Booz Allen, she worked as a Systems Analyst supporting mathematical modeling and computer simulation of missile defense systems. Jo Anne lives in Annapolis, and was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia. She enjoys biking, golf, music and is a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Joan Ruhl

Executive Advisor, Booz Allen Hamilton

Joan retired from the National Security Agency last year with 40 years of experience ranging across the Agency’s major mission areas. She served as the Deputy Director, Information Assurance Directorate for the two years immediately prior to her retirement. Among her many achievements at NSA, Joan led the development of the Defensive Information Operations mission and developed strong partnerships across DOD especially with USSTRATCOM and the JTF-GNO. Hired as a mathematician, Joan spent much of her career as a leader in the cryptanalysis mission. Joan has been recognized with many awards including the OSD Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service, two Presidential Rank Awards, the Exceptional Civilian Service Award and the Director’s Distinguished Service Medal.

Joan joined Booz Allen in April, 2009 and is providing subject matter expertise in direct support of several Booz Allen teams as well as serving as a mentor and coach to junior and senior leaders.

Joan has a BA degree in mathematics from Trinity College, Washington, DC. She is a member of the Cryptomathematics Institute and the Phoenix Society.

Joan enjoys gardening, walking, music, and reading. She and her husband, Dick, spend many weekends at their second home in Berkeley Springs, WV. They have two adult sons, Chris and Tim who reside in California and Georgia, respectively.

Debra Shapiro

President, Integrated Technology Solutions, Inc. (ITSI)

For the past 10 years, Debbie has been president and technical director of Integrated Technology Solutions, Inc. (ITSI) a systems engineering firm. As president of a small company she oversees the major day to day activities for finance, HR, security, business development, and program management. Her core responsibilities include building industry relationships and proposal development.

Debbie earned her BA in psychology and mathematics from the University of Michigan, her MFA from Antioch University, and completed her BS and graduate work in computer science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has an extensive technical background as a software/systems engineer and as and Enterprise Architect. In addition to ITSI, she has worked with Westinghouse Electric Corporation (now Northrop Grumman), Loral Aerosys, Lockheed Martin and has experience supporting both NSA and CIA as a contractor. Debbie also taught as adjunct faculty on a part time basis in the computer science for the University of Maryland Baltimore County for 17 years.

Debbie earned her Program Management Professional certification in 2004 and continues in good standing with the Program Management Institute in that capacity. She is ITIL certified and has completed coursework in Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), earned value management, CMMI and is working on her Six Sigma Greenbelt. Debbie is a member of IEEE, AFCEA, participates with the DC chapter of Women in Technology (WIT), the Executive Forum, and the Program Management Institute (PMI).

Debbie has lived in Columbia MD for 30 years. She has four grown children and three grandchildren. In her spare time, Debbie loves to travel, sew, garden, and read.

Sandy Stocks, PMP

Director of Operations, NCI Information Systems

Sandy has over 20 years managing and performing in IT services on government contracts with 10+ years in the Intelligence Community. Her experience includes: program, financial, and contract management, business development, IV&V, QA/QC, systems engineering, software development, and integration & test for a wide range of systems in various government agencies.

Sandy has been with NCI for 3 years, was with CACI twice, for a total of 7 years and has been with various small businesses in the community. As a Director for two of the small businesses, (CTGi and Triton), Sandy provided strategic planning; client and industry relationship management; community outreach; opportunity identification, qualification, and capture; teaming; proposal support; BD and managed 1-8 small programs for various agencies.

Sandy earned her BS degrees in Computer Science from the UMUC and an MS from Hopkins. She is a member of AFCEA and PMI and has been PMP certified since 2004. Sandy lives in Waldorf Maryland, but was raised in Cape Canaveral Fla, and enjoys her cats and reading during the winter and in the summer floating in the pool getting the sun and gardening. She has two step-children, 6 grand children, and 2 great grand daughters.
