The Central MD Chapter actively encourages and promotes scientific education through five programs: Scholarships, Teaching Tools Awards, Science Fairs, Bridge, and Adopt a School. Brief descriptions and links to web pages with additional information are provided below.
We have been providing scholarships since 1987, and this year we proudly commit to provide 11 additional college scholarship awards totaling $110,000. The scholarships are presented each year to deserving high school students who are going to pursue scientific education in college. The scholarship recipients are competitively selected from Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard counties. For additional information on the scholarships, please click on the link above.
In order to enable high school students to gain additional scientific skills, our chapter helps teachers promote practical learning in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard counties. This year, we commit to provide three Teaching Tools Awards totaling $7,500. The awards recognize outstanding middle school and high school science and mathematics teachers with a cash grant for needed school supplies and equipment. For additional information on these awards, please click on the Teaching Tools Awards link above.
Our chapter is an active participant in local science fairs. This year, we anticipate providing $500 in annual science fair awards. For additional information on science fairs, please click on the link above.
Our chapter created this program to link high school candidates with local universities and AFCEA Central MD Chapter Sponsors to promote the math and science career opportunities. Our goal is encourage and attract high school and college students into the intelligence community by providing opportunities with chapter sponsors.
Our goal is to provide adopted schools with personnel and potentially hardware, software, or equipment to improve hands-on scientific education. We commit to provide industry personnel that can be utilized by teachers and students to provide practical guidance, daily experiences, and project mentoring/judging.
